For its 37th Annual Plenary Meeting, to be held in Malta, the Council will convene to discuss and renew the Universal Declaration of Human Responsibilities that was first proposed by the Council in 1997. The Council will welcome 5 One Young World Ambassadors to contribute to the 37th Plenary.

In advance of this meeting, One Young World and the InterAction Council will be hosting a session to facilitate a pre-Malta dialogue on the topic of nuclear disarmament. The event will bring together members of the InterAction Council network and One Young World Ambassadors for a truly intergenerational discussion on the global ethical implications of nuclear proliferation.

Ella Robertson

Ella Robertson is the Managing Director of One Young World, a UK charity which serves as a global forum for young leaders. Ella oversees the annual One Young World Summit which has taken place in nine different cities across the world, from Bangkok to Bogota. Ella is the co-author of How To Make A Difference - the authoritative handbook to activism. In the past year she has written for The Times, The Daily Telegraph and City AM; she was featured in British Vogue for her activism and was named on the Management Today/Daily Telegraph list of 35 Women Under 35 2019.

Tom Axworthy

Thomas S. Axworthy has had a distinguished career in government, academia, and philanthropy. He served as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, and he was a key strategist on repatriation of the Constitution and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. He was appointed Secretary-General of the InterAction Council, a think tank of former world leaders, in 2011. Established in 1983, the InterAction Council was the first group to apply the wisdom and network of former leaders to current global issues.

Bertie Ahern

Bertie Ahern retired as Taoiseach (Prime Minister) in May 2008 having enjoyed the unique distinction in modern Irish politics of being the first person in over sixty years to have been elected to that office on three successive occasions. He continues to serve as a member of Dáil Éireann (Parliament). Since leaving office Mr Ahern has been involved in Conflict Resolution worldwide. He spent four years with The World Economic Forum Agenda Council on Conflict Resolution and then working with a number of organisations such as Democratic Progress Institute in Turkey and Crisis Management Initiative in the Ukraine. In the past year, he has successfully chaired the Bougainville Referendum Commission working with the United Nations Development Programme and the donor countries including Australia, New Zealand, and The Papua New Guinea Government.

Hajer Sharief

Hajer Sharief is a Libyan activist working for peace, human rights and justice, holding a law degree from Tripoli University. She is the co-founder of the Together We Build it organisation, a Libyan NGO working to empower local communities to play a role in peacebuilding. She is a member of the Extremely Together Initiative by former UN Secretary General and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kofi Annan on youth and violent extremism. In 2016, she was appointed by the UN Secretary General as a member of the advisory group on youth peace and security. In 2017, Sharief won the Student Peace Prize. Moreover, she is a member of UN women group of champions on women peace and security, violent extremism and human rights. Most recently, Sharief was shortlisted by PRIO as one of the worthy nominees for the Nobel Peace prize 2019.

Rut Einarsdottir

Currently pursuing an MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development at SOAS on a full Chevening Scholarship, Rut is passionate about youth inclusion and have worked for that on various platforms such as the Advisory Council on Youth to the Council of Europe and Icelandic Youth Council. She is the Operations Manager of SCRAP Weapons, an organisation advocating for global disarmament where we engage young people around the topic of arms control, having previously led global advocacy projects and a current member of the United Network of Young Peacebuilder's European Advocacy Team.

Ibrahim Jalal

Ibrahim Jalal is the youngest Non-resident Scholar in the Gulf and Yemen Programme at the Middle East Institute (MEI) in Washington DC, a Co-founder of the Security Distillery Think Tank and a Yemeni peacebuilding and geopolitical consultant. He researches and debriefs a wide range of audiences on UN-led peace processes, conflict, defence, risk, arms control and the evolving security architecture in the Middle East, as well as partakes in relevant Track II discussions. Earning his 2nd MSc in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies (IMSISS) from the Universities of Glasgow, Chalres and Dublin as an Erasmus Scholar, Ibrahim was recently a Visiting Scholar at Macquarie University's Department of Security Studies in Sydney, Australia.

Reb Johnson

Dr. Reb Eleanor Johnson is Director of the Acronym Institute for Disarmament Diplomacy and the first president of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. She was responsible for establishing ICAN in Geneva in 2010 as an independent NGO with global reach and the humanitarian disarmament strategies that led to the 2017 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), for which ICAN was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.
