Join the 'People with Purpose' Series launch: Guide to 21st Century Entrepreneurship

One Young World (OYW) Southern Africa presents the ‘People with Purpose’ Series, an initiative to connect industry experts, the OYW community and society through various connect sessions tackling relevant issues and themes affecting the region and beyond.

The first session ‘Guide to 21st Century Entrepreneurship’, will be an event that’ll bring together influential South African speakers in the industry who will break down running start-ups in a pandemic, futureproofing economies, and the future of the working world.

There will be a panel discussion followed by an audience Q&A.

Bronwyn was with CNBC Africa since its launch in 2007. Africa Business News (ABN) appointed Bronwyn as the Executive Director to the group in 2012. Her role of executive director involves setting the content agenda for all the companies within the ABN Group (this includes CNBC Africa, Forbes Africa - ABN Publishing, ABN Pictures, ABN Digital and ABN Productions), as well as working closely with Senior Management on all strategic growth opportunities. Some of her highlights at CNBC Africa include the hosting of the live CNBC Africa Debates at the World Economic Forum in Davos January 2013 - 2016, the first time that an African broadcaster was represented in the official WEF agenda at this event, and presenting Captains of Industry, a program that features weekly interviews with top leadership of African companies.

Yogavelli joined the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation in October 2017 as its Chief Executive Officer. Previously she was the Founding Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Academy at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), the business school of the University of Pretoria, where she led the school’s entrepreneurship efforts. She started the Academy in 2014 to offer scholarship-based education and support to entrepreneurs of start-up, micro, and small enterprises who were previously marginalised or underserved, leading to it being commended by Cabinet and receiving other awards. During this time, she taught on the Social Entrepreneurship Programme on business models that can be used to create social change.

As the CEO of the company, he won DNA Brand Architects many accolades for its ground-breaking work. Being a change leader, Sylvester’s approach to standing out and being a powerful force in being creative in marketing has earned him and his team a powerful reputation. Sylvester has a stellar list of achievements. From being awarded CNBC Africa’s All Africa Young Business Leader of the Year, BBQ Young Leader of the Year, European Business Assembly Best Enterprise and CEO Award, to the Oliver Empowerment Top Empowered Young Entrepreneur award.

Aisha Pandor

Founder of SweepSouth

Aisha is co-founder of SweepSouth (sweepsouth.com), an online platform for booking, paying for and managing homes cleaning services from your laptop, phone or tablet. Sweepsouth is the first company on the African continent to offer this service, and a 500 Start-ups Batch 14 alum. Aisha previously worked as a management consultant, gaining experience in the telecommunications and mining industries. Aisha has a PhD in Human Genetics from the University of Cape Town and an Associate in Management from the UCT Graduate School of Business. Between 2011 and 2012, she received a South African Women in Science Award for her research and was named as one of the Mail and Guardian newspaper's 200 Young South Africans.

Dr. Emily Musil Church

Senior Director, Milken Institute's Center for Global Market Development

Emily Musil Church, PhD, is senior director of Global Market Development at the Milken Institute, where she leads the Milken-Motsepe Prize and the Institute’s Innovation Prize Competitions (IPCs).

Church spent over a decade in academia where, as a college professor, she specialized in African history, global development, human rights, and women’s global issues. She then joined the XPRIZE Foundation, operating large-scale global competitions that brought together entrepreneurs, researchers, programmers, designers, engineers, and philanthropists to develop new technology solutions to solve global challenges. As the executive director of the XPRIZE human equity domain, she worked on and oversaw a suite of prizes and initiatives.

The Milken-Motsepe Innovation Prize in AgriTech is a $2 million, two-year global competition designed to inspire innovative solutions that increase economic value for small and medium-sized farms, from seed to sale. Registration is free and open to anyone, anywhere, with a $1 million grand prize available for the winning team. While focused on Africa, submissions should have the potential to be applied globally.

Mpho has a passion for education and the empowerment of women and attended One Young World in London 2019. She’s currently a Masters in Management student at WITS Business School on a full scholarship and holds an Honours degree in Strategic Communications. In 2019, Mpho was named one of COSMOPOLITAN South Africa’s 25 under 25 next generation of fierce women making their mark in Africa list, she was also a McKinsey next generational women leader finalist in the same year and in 2020 was recognised by Mail & Guardian as one of fifty powerful women in South Africa who are shaping the African region.

Dimpho is a communications and development practitioner whose work centres around using media platforms to critically engage young people on development and social issues. She's the Community Manager at Youth Lab, a policy think tank that works to improve youth capacity and mainstream youth participation in community building and policy making. She is the 2020 South Africa winner of the World Bank's Blog4Dev Competition and a One Young World Ambassador since 2018
