In honour of International Women's Month, One Young World Africa & the Middle East presents a special Women's Month Event: 'Breaking the glass ceiling'. This webinar will celebrate the strides of exceptional women across Africa.

Mauritania
After graduating from an academic career studying medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Casablanca, Morocco and a BA in Modern Languages in Mauritania, Dickel founded AFPHY in 2017. The programme stands for Gender Equality, gathering more than 235 women and girls from four local villages who manufacture clay-based items for eco-building and cultural uses.

A social entrepreneur and seasoned humanitarian who is recognized as an emerging woman leader with the courage to lead change on the African continent. She has a strong commitment to education, women economic empowerment and leadership. Vivian has a deep interest in re-defining Africa’s growth and development and creating an inclusive world where women and youth can play an important role.
Hilina Berhanu Degefa
Ethiopia
Hilina Berhanu Degefa is an Ethiopian women's rights activist. She is a co-founder of The Yellow Movement, an Addis Ababa feminist group, and a co-founder and president of Women for Change. She was a 2015 recipient of a Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young.

Ayan has used her lived experiences, qualifications and insights from her community projects in marginalised communities to advocate for the intersectional factors that inhibit the progression of women and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. She has now founded Voicing Voices, an international consultancy firm that is dedicated to eliminating gender inequalities using human-centred designs and initiatives that tackle systematic oppressions.

Mpho currently works at Discovery (Group Marketing) as a Sponsorships Consultant and has a huge passion for educating and empowering women. In 2019, Mpho was named one of COSMOPOLITAN South Africa’s 25 under 25 next generation of fierce women making their mark in Africa list, she was also a McKinsey next generational women leader finalist in the same year and in 2020 was recognised by Mail & Guardian as one of fifty powerful women in South Africa who are shaping our nation.
